Hello everyone, and welcome to this month’s newsletter. I’m Hazel and I joined the NLISN committee as Secretary in October. You can find out more about me and the rest of the committee on our committee page.

Training

NLISN now runs workshops designed mainly for neurotypical colleagues and managers. We can deliver them within your own organisation, and we also run open sessions that anyone can book onto individually.

Our next open workshop, Working in Neuroinclusive Teams, is about supporting neurodivergent colleagues at work. It takes place online on Wednesday 4 November from 2pm to 4pm. You can get 50% off by entering NLISN at the checkout or by booking through this discount link. Full details are on the Eventbrite page.

Leading Neurodiverse Teams is a webinar for managers and leaders, running online on Monday 7 December from 1pm to 4pm. It begins with what we mean by neurodivergence and neurodiversity and how they can show up at work, including masking and the strengths a neurodiverse workforce brings. There will also be a short look at NLISN’s own research into neurodiversity in the library workforce. Most of the session focuses on the difficulties neurodivergent people commonly face at work, from the physical environment to PDA (pathological demand avoidance) and a strong sense of justice, and how neurotypical managers can understand and respond to them well. Book via Eventbrite. If cost is a barrier, please get in touch.

If you think your organisation would benefit from training on neurodivergence or neurodiversity, we’d love to hear from you. You can find out more and book us through our training and workshops page.

Events

On 21 October we held an in-person event on Neurodivergence and Intersectionality at City St George’s, University of London. Six fantastic speakers shared their work and the conversation carried on throughout the day. If you missed it, or want to revisit it, the slides and a summary of the main themes are on our past events page.

Our next event is online on Monday 23 November from 1pm to 2pm, on the Divergent Minds in the Archive project. Full details and a booking link will go out on the mailing list soon.
