Hello all!
I hope you’ve all had a lovely, and only slightly chaotic September with new intakes abound. There are a couple of things we need to update you on:
Firstly, our wonderful co-chair, Andy Walsh is stepping down from his role to focus on the new NLISN training offers. Andy has been co-chair of NLISN, alongside Jo, since the very beginning, when NLISN was a pilot scheme for Academic Libraries North. With Andy and Jo at the helm, NLISN has grown from strength to strength, and has hosted multiple events, coffee catch ups, and even a conference! Andy will be sorely missed, although he will still be in the committee as the Training Officer (name to be confirmed). Please join us in thanking Andy for his dedication, enthusiasm and leadership over the years. His contributions to NLISN have been invaluable!
This means that our Secretary, Amelia, will be stepping up and taking over the role as co-chair. Amelia has been NLISN’s Secretary since the network officially began, and is looking forward to building on the fantastic work that Andy and Jo have done over the years. We are currently talking to a couple of people about appointing a new Secretary, so keep your eyes peeled for that announcement.
We also held our AGM in September. Andy, Jo and Amelia presented our annual report alongside our plans for the next year. The recording of the AGM will soon be on our Youtube channel, and you can view our Annual Plan for the next year in Zenodo.
Finally, NLISN is putting on an in-person, one-day event ‘Intersections: Identity, Neurodivergence, and Library & Information Work’ which will take place at City St George’s University, Clerkenwell campus, London, on Tuesday 21st October 2026, 10am–4pm. Travel advice and specific room information for the event will be shared in due course.
The goal is to bring together neurodivergent LIS workers and allies to talk about how neurodivergence sits alongside the other parts of who we are, and how all those different overlaps shape our working lives, our careers, and our wellbeing.
Bookings are now open for the event with tickets priced at a cost of £25. We’ve tried to keep costs to a minimum but if you need a free place and a bursary towards travel expenses we’ll aim to make some available, please get in touch to ask for details.
